Little Things I Noticed Upon Going To Japan For The First Time

Since I got some extra time, I thought I might as well update on le long overdue Japan Trip story. HAHAHA. Yeah it was a few years ago but I'm glad I've wrote something back then on Microsoft Word LOL. Or else I might have already forget what really happened. Tbh I just found this writing by accident (it was on a folder on my lappie) and it seems like it captures the essence of my experience. So yeah...Enjoy!

 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are a few things that I noticed upon going to Japan for the very first time in my life. I think mostly are positive and it’s an eye opener. Since I’ve only been there once and not long, I can’t say that this is a definite post.  I’d say just take it as a view/perspective from someone who only been there for 8 days. So yeah, here are a few things that I noticed in Japan. (Ok basically it’s Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto, Himeji since I’ve only visited these places. Hehehe)

JR_NAMBA
Took this picture simply because my friend and I passed by this place countless times

1.  Escalator Ettiquete : Different standing side for escalator (Tokyo vs. Osaka)

Unlike my own country where people usually just stand on whichever side they want, Japan is more similar to Singapore. Except for one thing: Standing side. Been to Singapore and witnessed first hand on how the people there tend to stand on a particular side to allow others to walk on the other side. Thus the view I saw in Tokyo doesn’t come as a surprise. But once my friend and I set foot in Osaka (Can’t remember if it’s Osaka Station or Shin-Osaka Station), all of the sudden we saw everyone standing on the right side of the escalator. For a moment we were confused if we remembered correctly. Yet our foot just followed automatically and mimic what everyone else do. Like they say: “When in Rome, do like the Romans do”.

As time passed by, it happened that my friend and I looked at each other (as we’re going down the escalator). Both noticed about the escalator thing but wasn’t sure if we want to talk about it or not. Perhaps cause deep down we both think that it’s too random. LOL! Nevertheless, we both ended up talking about it and concluded that we didn’t remember wrongly. That's how we confirmed that Osaka have different standing side compared to Tokyo: People in Tokyo stands on the left and people in Osaka stands on the right side of the escalator.

I am curious what makes different countries and cities have different standing side. I did read a few theories but I still can’t find a solid one to share. Hopefully someone with knowledge on this topic would pass by this blog and enlighten us all? But one thing for sure is that I like the idea of standing on only one side of the escalator. Especially in busy places where some people are rushing to get from one place to another. Though I have read something about how it’s recommended to stand on both side of the escalator and just use the staircases when rushing (As in for train stations in Japan, coz malls wouldn't have staircase right next to the escalator right?). What do you personally think?

2.    Knock - knock - knockin’ on heaven’s door

When I first “received” a knock on my toilet door at public places with long queue, I wondered if I took too much time. To be honest I don’t think that I took too much time inside the toilet cubicle till people would rush me.

If it were to happen only once then it would be normal. But it happened to me like 3x in 3 different places. First was at a sightseeing place, secondly was at a busy train station and lastly was at a Kobe beef restaurant. HAHAHAHA.

When I talked about it to my friend, she said that she never had anyone knocked on her door at all…HAHAHAHAHA!!! So was it just my “luck”? And in these “lucky” moments I realized that it happened when the toilet swarmed with people (long queue). Except for the final place which is a restaurant lol. So I believe that people can see (while queuing) if somebody have entered the toilet or not, right? And unlike in Indonesia where people usually queue right in front of each door available, in Japan they queue in a single line. So if they see anyone have left the cubicle then the one queued in front can proceed to the vacant toilet. Which means if anyone knock on my door, it would be because I took too much time right? Not because they wanna check if somebody is inside, yes?

It was still a mystery to this day. Or perhaps it was a hallucination? Or did I have Schizophrenia? Hmm…I wonder. Hopefully it’s one of these 2 or else it’s a bit awkward.

Read from somewhere that usually we have to knock back twice from inside to show that there’s somebody occupying the toilet. But I didn’t do it as I’m shy and unsure if it’s the right thing to do. *slapped

3.    Cashier professionalism

Speaking of travelling, there’s no way that you’d miss this one. And I’d say that is one is something NEW for me! I’ve never encountered something like this before.  If you’ve been to Japan, then I’m sure you will know what I mean. I’m not sure if other countries were like this too. But in Japan, even cashiers were so professional and formal.

When making a payment, the cashier would tell us the amount that we need to pay, then we would have to place our money on a tray placed on the table. After that they would give us back our balance. Starting with the banknotes, followed by coins and lastly the receipt.

Personally I think It’s cool on how they would count the money in front of us. Mentioning the amount that they’ve counted, pass us the money, then they would move on to count the coins, again mentioning the total amount to us again and pass us the coins. Sometimes they might pass the money together with the receipt paper and sometimes separately (after passing the coins).

What’s amazing is I can’t imagine how much talking they need to repeat the whole time…all the way till work ends…LOLOLOL…I don’t think I can survive talking, repeating the procedure over and over again daily. Hahahha…so I really look up to them. Plus most of them were so nice as they give smiles too.

4.    Politeness even when they are not completely wrong and kindness.

Maybe it’s true that Japanese people tend to avoid making problems. For an example, when both people walk from opposite of each other and almost clash, they would bow and said sorry even when we didn’t bump to each other at all. To which it rather makes me feel guilty as well coz I don’t really fancy making people say sorry to me…LOL. It’s rather awkward.

I was impressed though. Coz most people here in my country would just bump to us, acting as if nothing happened and just walk off without saying sorry or anything. Not everyone is like that of course. But yes, many were like that.

Blurry but well. I only took this one pic of the store lololol

5.    Paying system at Animate

So when the first time I came across Animate building in Akibahara (I think it wasn’t the main branch coz it’s only a smol one unit building), I was so happy and excited beyond words.

Browsing through every item on every level is like a heavenly task and sure enough I just put whatever took my fancy onto the basket that I’m holding (RIP my money).

Little did I know that I would face a little problem upon reaching the cashier. So when I handed my basket to the cashier, he was like browsing on every item inside the basket. Soon enough he asked me on which floor did i get so and so. It was like a sudden KABOOMMM! HAHAHAHA…I mean I tried not to get myself into a situation where I have to talk in Japanese other than "arigatou" but there you go. FML I thought.

So I am assuming that we need to pay each item on respective floor? Depending on where the book is located? lololol

I told him that I didn’t know, that I forgot where they are from and that I'm sorry. There he was like holding the books again as if trying to find some clue and called like each floor to find out if the books that I took is from that floor or not.

Can you feel anymore guilty? HAHAHAH I feel like I am a disgrace LOLOLOLOL. Some more he was always apologizing to the one he called to ask. Saying something like he’s sorry to disturb, asked if book so and so is from their floor or not. I feel bad ok. I wonder if there’s a sign saying that we should pay on each floor. Hmm. I hope there’s that sign, written in English so us, travellers could make everyone’s life easier by following the rules set.

Partly coz I felt like a potato talking in my beginner level of Japanese. Lots of “eto”, “sumimasen”, “wakarimasen”, “arigatou gozaimasu”. I didn’t manage to build the right sentence due to panic. As in I keep mixing formal and informal words. Sometimes I forgot to add -desu on my words. How much of a potato can someone get? Sorry sensei. I think I failed my RL conversation in Japanese. OTL

Btw the cashier was a young guy. Maybe someone in his college/uni years? And it happened the one attending me was a tall young guy with shoulder length black hair, wearing black framed glass and Animate apron. I’ve always thought that the person who worked there would look like hardcore otaku. But they looked just like everyone else that I don’t think that we can spot whether they’re a hardcore otaku or not.

Anyway, I LOVEEEE the shop. Coz they would give freebies! For my case I was given 2 picture cards and a mini brochure? Though the picture card given is abit hmm. Yes those with gigantic boobs hahaha…

My loots. I didnt take pic of the free boobies illustration card tho hahaha

Stress Pasang Screen Protector

Nah baru - baru ini kan gw barusan beli HP baru. Ya udah donk terus beli screen protector sama casing biar anti banting. So hari ini barang yg gw order sampe dan gw happy lah ceritanya.

Buat casing sih gw beli yang sama percis sama yang pernah gw beli buat Samsung S6 gw dulu. So far dah bertahun - tahun (4 tahun?) perasaan pas jatoh aman - aman aja. In fact sampe sekarang tuh hp masi utuh kaya pertama kali gw beli. Super mulus lah ceritanya.

Nah buat screen protector gw jg decided buat beli yang sama. Sekali lagi entah kenapa tuh casing sama screen protector pas dipakein ke S6 gw kok gimana gitu ya. Ga pernah ada masalah sama sekali! Pokoknya udah bertahun - tahun tapi gw ga pernah ganti apa - apa. Satisfied banget.

Tapi jeng jeng jeng!

Kali ini rada salah beli. Maklum bego hal-hal gadget.

Ga taunya malapetaka mulai terjadi. Pas tuh screen dilap sama kain kecil yang came with the screen protector, debunya keluar banyak bangetttt. Apalagi pas nabrak ujung casing. Whew...nyangkut debunya disana. WHYYYY!!

Ok la. Dari sana gw berusaha sedaya upaya buat tenang and pake sticker yg dikasi jg sama itu screen protector-nya dan mulai proses tempel angkat tempel angkat tuh debu sampe kondisi mulai meyakinkan. Ga 100% sih. Tp yang penting mendingan lah.

So abis gw rada convinced sama keadaan screen yg kini debunya mulai berkurang, mulai deh pemasangan screen protector kedua. Serasa tukang kaca yang masang sandblast kaca. Hahaha. Coz kalo pasang sanblast kan juga perlu spray air sabun trus tempelin and gosok2 pake squeegee. Ok balik ke topik pemasangan...

Pasang...Pasang...Pasang...

Eh gelembung...cabut lagi

Pasang...Pasang...Pasang...

Eh ujungnya berdebu...squeegee terus biar debunya menjauh.

Serius bikin stress. Ga cocok banget buat yang ga sabaran and tangan kaga ahli.

Tp tetep semangat donk walau apapun yang terjadi. (Padahal udah mulai tegang gara2 tuh solution yang dikasih tingal 1/5 aja. Jadi walau apapun yang terjadi mesti kepasang)

Eh beneran kegesek bagian bawah sampe ujung screen protector keangkat...APESSSS~ Ludes deh solution yang tersisa. Untungnya bisa kepasang lagi...

Tapi eits...ada tapinya.

Pas slesai pasang and udah lap lap sampe kering, ga taunya terasa ada benjolan pas gw raba-raba itu screen. And ga taunya...I think you know what I saw!

YESSSS!

DEBUUUUUUUUU~~~

Ahhhh...rasanya pengen lempar meja. Tp kalo lempar meja malah tambah bokek, perlu beli meja baru.

So at the end gw hanya bisa meratap nasib.

Ok deh...bye. Ntar kalo lagi rajin baru gw masukin foto sama nama produk.

SOLO TRIP PERDANA : NO MO!

Yay!! No more solo trip as suddenly le friend (from foundation era) came up to me and she decided to join me for Japan Trip. Wohoo...Ok la it happened like a day after I booked le airbnb. So it was months ago.

I have mixed feeling at first since I kinda want to experience solo trip. On the other hand I thanked God for giving me a companion. Coz that means that nao I don't need to feel so alone. Plus I can go to places that requires more than one person to be present. Such as BBQ restaurants, Purikura, etc. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA~~ //slapped

So yea...speaking of Airbnb, it was my first time trying it. Everything went well...till today in which I got an e-mail from Airbnb saying that my host has cancelled my booking. Apparently something happened with their previous tenant...so nao the owner doesn't want to rent it on Airbnb anymore. //sighs

Dear previous tenant...what did you do?? You made us lose the chance to stay at that nice place. Hmmph! Plus it's like two months more before our departure...So all the nice one within budget were taken. Leaving us with less choice to choose from. In the end all is well as we got ourselves a new place la. Thank God. Nao can only pray that everything went smoothly //fingers crossed

All of a sudden it feels like booking a hotel is much more convenient compared to Airbnb. Hahaha...so be fully prepared if you're trying it. But so far other friends and family members never experience being cancelled before. So mebbe it's just me being unlucky this time. Airbnb provides better range of prices and places though. Worth trying. :)

See you in 2++ months dear Japan ^^

SOLO TRIP PERDANA!

Surprisingly dia OK-in ide gw. Bukan maen bahagia.

Tiap hari tuh bersemangat banget rasanya...Serasa minggu depannya udah mau terbang...Padahal tiket aja belom beli.

Pas bulan February mulai tiba, si Boss Boss tiba - tiba aja Whatsapp ke gw foto "Travel Fair". Fyi, gw udah kasih hint ke dia sejak tahun lalu kalo gw pengen jalan - jalan ke Jepang tahun depan. Kebetulan dia bulan February kemaren pergi ke Jepang buat join Tokyo Marathon. So dia ceritain kalo dia toh akhir tahun kemaren beli tiket PP ke Tokyo 4 juta nett pake ANA. Travel mulai awal tahun 2017.

Pas ngeliat tuh iklan gw rada bingung apa udah harus mulai beli...ato tunggu pertengahan tahun aja baru beli. Toh gw jg plan-nya pergi pas Autumn. Bisa dibilang masih lamaaaa...Tapi yang namanya noob yah pasti think like a noob.

So why not beli sekarang aja? Toh ujung - unjungnya juga mesti beli kan? Nah dari situ gw contact deh si temen deket. Tp apa daya ketika dia bilang kalo dia kaga bisa ikut...LOLOLOL...Beneran gw jadi down seketika...Ampe kepikiran apa gw batalin aja ya and postpone tahun depan.

Setelah mikir mateng - mateng akhirnya gw memutuskan untuk pergi sendiri...LOL! Intinya gw nanya ke diri sendiri beberapa pertanyaan berikut...

1. Katanya lo cinta banget...koq kaga berani pergi sendiri?

So?? Masih mikir apa lagi??

LOL.

Total damage 5.1+ juta. Beda 1.1+ jt sama tiket boss boss...Tp ok lah memandangkan gw bakal return dari Osaka. Safe time dan gw jadi ga beli JR PASS...LOLOLOL.

Yang paling disayangkan yah yang tadinya mau pergi 14 hari...boss kasi hint bolehnya 10 hari. Tp flight gw malah kasi 8 hari doank. Beneran? Gw masih noob banget sama travel fair and promo price...kayanya promo langsung dari maskapal lebih gampang dimengerti.

Kalo yang JAL 7 hari PP 4 jt...Kenapa gw milih ANA 8 hari PP 5.1+ jt? Yah...kalo dipikir-pikir sih cuma beda 1 hari doank...kenapa gw mati - matian pilih yang 8 hari? Yah namanya jg pertama kali.

Oh satu hal lagi...walaupun gw berangkatnya malem - malem. Which is what I wanted...So pas sampe disana itu pagi - pagi and bisa langung meluncur jalan - jalan...Tp pas pulangnya tuh pagi - pagi amet!!!

Tadinya sih bingung gw bakalan tidur dimana. Kedengerannya interesting buat dicoba...HAHAHAHA! Smoga saja beneran interesting...lumayan bisa experience something yang biasanya nggak bakal gw coba...Ini yang namanya blessing in disguise ya? LOL!

Nah tiket udah terbeli...tinggal apply visa plus pesen tempat tinggal deh. Tapi kayanya ini 2 pertengahan tahun baru beresin. Akhir - akhir ini beneran sibuk. Jadi kaga punya waktu.

Terima kasih...hahahhaha.

Ok deh...sekian sharing hari ini...

Sleeping Early!

It's around 30 minutes to my sleeping time! Might be sleeping right after I post this post. So yeah...this is my 2nd day of sleeping early. Planned to sleep daily by 10 but usually I've just finished dinner after 8...so it felt like days ended too fast. So I cheated a bit and decided to sleep at 11 instead!

It's pretty hard since I got back from work pretty late and all the sudden it feels like it's sleeping time already! I felt like I've wasted many hours in my life. Imagine that you can only live until 50 and you wasted like 50% of your hours of being alive for sleeping. Think of how many things can you do with all those hours! And here I am giving up those hours for the sake of experimenting...Hahaha...

Basically there's only 3 things I can't give up in my life for the sake of beauty...

One...SLEEP! I won't be sleeping early just because everyone is telling me that it might be the cause that my skin isn't as healthy as before. LOLOLOL...It might've been true...since my skin gradually becomes bad right after I entered college. The "era" in which I've started to stayed up late...REAL LATE...with chances of not sleeping for a day or days (with super short naps here and there). Might've been the stress too...but oh well...the habits stayed up till today and I still find it hard to sleep early. Plus I don't feel like wasting so much time on sleep alone. Though honestly I find sleeping to be enjoyable. If only I can sleep for 2 hours and it felt like 7 hours...that would be awesome!

Two...SPICY FOOD! It's sooo hard to stop myself from eating them delicious spicy food! A food isn't much of a food if it's lacking of spiciness...I don't mind eating food without chillies, etc. But definitely I would LOVE to have chillies or anything spicy on my plate~

Three...FRIED FOODS! How can I stop this one if it's the easiest food to find almost everywhere. Not to forget that I LOVE LOVE LOVE KFC and am proud to say that I'm good at cooking fried dishes~

So yeah...after thinking for awhile...on Sunday evening...LOL! I decided to give sleeping early a try. (Seems like the easiest la) See if it's contributing anything to the skin. Huhuhu...hopefully I can give up all of these three things...but we'll take it slowly! Not sure if I managed to change anything or what. But at least I must give it a try before deciding whether it's working or not...LOL! Assumptions is bad~

Might be going back to the norm as well since I've always have that kind of mindset that good skin isn't anything compared to my happiness. And indeed those 3 are parts of my happiness...so we'll see...for now we try first~

First day was pretty awful as my eyes were wide awake for dunno how long...Didn't really check the watch. But it felt like I kept on rolling on the bed till 12...or more?? Hahaha...since when did sleeping becomes so hard?? Awake by 5.30 but I forced myself to sleep back coz my dream was pretty interesting. *coughs

Hehehe...Ok...gonna off now and spend my remaining minutes playing my Android games...wish me luck...lol.

Miss September 2011 Fiction-ated!

Finally the video that I've promised posting is here!
This is something random and unplanned that was taken during Dreamie's B'day.
The kind of randomness that invites adventure~
Thanks to this I had the opportunity to play with Adobe Premiere!
 (Still noob with it though)

Hope you guys enjoy watching this.
No human nor animal or anything else was harm during the production.
Except my ear for excessive repetitive song, conversation and videos though!
Haha...but other than that I for sure enjoyed every tiny bits editing this.

Btw this is a work of fiction for fun purposes.
Don't have to really SMS to vote for them.
о(ж)

Thank you for watching!
Sorry for the poor quality though.

Tried to upload the one with 5MB,
but waited for more than 4 hours and still not uploaded.
So I cancelled it and posted one with 1.9MB instead.
Was uploaded in less than 5 minutes.
(YEAH...big gaps of time difference right?)

Tell me if you like it.
I might make more...LOL.

Anyway,
See you in my other random posts!

Madam Yii's Cooking Pt. II

As I promised,
here's the vid of Madam Yii hands on the pan!

Took me alot of time to find ways resizing.
Blogger can only upload the max of 100mb vids.
And I don't want to put it in Youtube.

So yeah...
Bear with the quality.

Seriously I'm having fun editing this.
Though I didn't make it so cool,
but it's the process of editing it is so much FUN!

Might attempt to do another videos when I have ideas.
But for now hope you enjoy this video.

The song is good too, don't you think?
Ciao!
